I represent a culturally and economically diverse legislative district. My legislative efforts involve persuasively articulating a vision, initiating legislation, developing and offering amendments; preparing and offering speeches in debate, working collaboratively with other members, staff, interest groups, lobbyists, and the press; engaging constituents through surveys, letters, emails, phone calls, and public meetings, and assisting them with wide variety of service needs. I practice a communications forward approach to leadership, engaging and involving stakeholders in the legislative process. I secured the first ever funding for dual-enrollment classes, lead the successful efforts on the Safe and Supportive Minnesota Schools anti-bullying bill. Recognized as Minneapolis lead on K-12 issues.
