About Jim Burnett
I have been with RK & K, a multidisciplinary Civil Engineering consulting firm headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, since graduating from Penn State University, initially working as a Transportation Engineer, and progressively gaining experience and responsibility throughout my career. My current tile is Director of Traffic Engineering. I have helped to grow our department from a small team of five traffic engineers to our current staff of more than 130 highly talented and creative traffic engineers, designers and technicians. As Director of Traffic Engineering, my primary responsibilities include the development of technical proposals, the pursuit of new business opportunities, the growth and development of younger staff, and serving as Project Manager / Lead Traffic Engineer on a variety of engineering projects. My specific expertise includes the development of traffic forecasts; the analysis of transportation systems, including freeways, highways, signalized arterial, and urban city grid street networks; the development of traffic engineering policy for state and local municipalities; and the study of multimodal transportation impacts resulting from changes to roadway networks, transit systems, and tolling systems. One of my most enjoyable responsibilities at RK & K is leading our Special Events and Facilities Planning Group. I have had the very good fortune to lead teams that have provided transportation planning expertise for numerous major and minor league sports venues, including MLB, NFL, NCAA, MLS and NASCAR stadiums, as well as several state and national parks.
