About Jill Devrick

I am a software product professional because I sat next to the right person at a wedding reception. Of course, that’s not the only reason, but serendipity was the initial catalyst that started me on this journey. In my first role as a product specialist, I told myself I’d give it a year. And on every work anniversary since I have given it another year. Why? How could I walk away when something new and cool is always on the horizon? I love learning, exploring ideas, and working as part of a team to make life better through technology.Working for a small startup company early in my career enabled me to hone my implementation and client support skills, but it also brought opportunities to coordinate projects and contribute to building tools, processes, and standards where no formal role yet existed. I never backed away from the chance to improve workflows, product features, or client relationships. I have learned to be comfortable with being uncomfortable so I can continue to grow.Eventually, that small startup became part of a large corporation and my role evolved from product delivery to business unit operations and product management. As a product owner, identifying with and advocating for the user is essential. In addition to my role in developing software with a scrum team, I have been able to extend my skills in client advocacy and industry relations as a blogger, author and contributor to articles in industry publications, presenter at trade shows and conferences, and even as national president of a professional association.
