About Jill Comins

Jill Comins is a Board-Certified Dance/Movement psychotherapist and licensed professional counselor. Her ongoing interest in the creative process and mind/body integration guides her whole-person approach to therapy. Her interest in the creative process and mind body integration led her to earning a Master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Drexel University, after completing her Bachelor’s degree in Child Care and Development from Temple University. Between these degrees, she took time to raise two children while also delving deeply into self- inquiry utilizing art, dance, and mind-body practices, most of which informs her approach to therapy today. Jill believes that recovery and the course of change is a creative process and aims to help clients discover their personal pathways towards healing. She acknowledges the courage it takes to grow and heal and fosters a safe, relaxed, and non-judgmental environment to explore personal pathways to well-being. Since 2007, Jill has been practicing in the fields of mental health and addiction and has experience working in various levels of treatment including in-patient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient. She is skilled in providing individual and group therapy and works with a wide range of issues including depression and other mood-related disorders, trauma, crisis management, substance abuse, stress related disorders, and non-pharmaceutical pain management. She is a student in Mindfulness-Based Stress Management (MBSM) and has over 20 years of training in dance, yoga, and other mind- body disciplines. Her specialty lies in integrating traditional talk therapy along with a body-oriented approach to assist individuals in healing from trauma and in gaining freedom from chronic patterns of relating and coping that have become maladaptive. In addition to her training in Dance/Movement Therapy (adta.org), Jill is a Level One and Two Practitioner of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (sensorimotorpsychotherapy.org). These approaches rely on the innate wisdom of the body as a source of insight as well as an agent for change and catalyst for healing and growth. Jill works with adolescents and adults across the lifespan. She values the importance of fostering an alliance that is strengths-based and collaborative. Drawing from her personal practice in mindfulness, she aims to establish a connection through a lens of compassion and acceptance and is LGBTQ+ affirming and welcoming. Additionally, Jill provides supervision for LPC candidates and for Dance Therapy graduates seeking board certification.
