About Jian-Tao Sun

I am currently an engineering manager working on an enterprise question and answering product. Before joining this team, I led a group of engineers and scientists and worked for 3 years to build the customer support conversation bot product, with AI and human working together to serve customer requests. My 4.5 years work as an applied science manager at Microsoft Bing Search team (working on core ranking, knowledge graph and query understanding) gives me the opportunity to learn how search engine works and to contribute to the success of Bing search product. Before joining product team, I have worked as a researcher at Machine Learning group of Microsoft Research Asia. During my 7 years\' research journey, I have worked on projects related to information retrieval, online advertising, recommendation system, log mining and natural language processing. Besides releasing my research results into Microsoft products, I published more than 50 papers in referred conferences and journals. I have more than 20 filed US/international patents or pending applications. Prior to joining Microsoft, I obtained my Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science, Tsinghua University, where my research efforts were focused on Web document classification. I have been ACM senior member starting from 2014. I participate academia activities (research conferences, paper review) when I am not busy with my projects.
