I am a civil engineering professor committed to decarbonizing the built environment through transformative material innovations and interdisciplinary collaboration with students, colleagues, industry partners, and federal agencies. Over two decades at the University of Alabama, I have built a research ecosystem focused on CO₂ mineralization, advanced composites, thermal energy storage, waste valorization, and energy recovery, translating discoveries into scalable, sustainable solutions for infrastructure.My work has produced over 120 journal publications, 10 U.S. patents (including one licensed for commercial application), and a spin-out company selected by the Global Cement and Concrete Association to establish a consortium advancing low-carbon technologies. Supported by more than $21M in funding from NSF, DOE, NASA, and state programs, my research bridges fundamental science with real-world impact.
