Cornea Genetics Lab, Advisor: Dr. Anthony J Aldave•Working on three novel projects focused on studying the pathomechanisms underlying corneal endothelial dystrophies, including Congenital hereditary endothelial dystrophy (CHED), Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy (FECD) and Peripheral Macular Endothelial Dystrophy (PMED)• Developing a pediatric drug product recombinant Adeno-Associated Virus 8 Human Solute Carrier Family 4 Member 11 (AAV8-hSLC4A11) for treating CHED in infants and children with biallelic mutations in SLC4A11• Conducted pre-clinical studies, developed imaging and immunoassay protocols, and contributed to the preparation of INTERACT and Pre-IND packages for the FDA• Designed and initiated a research protocol and grant proposal to investigate the therapeutic potential of ovarian hormones in CHED• Investigating the efficacy of mitochondrial antioxidant MitoQ as an adjuvant to SLC4A11 AAV gene therapy in CHED.• Performed genetic screening on DNA samples from CHED patients to identify pathogenic mutations associated with PMED and FECD
