About Jim Henson
I am an experienced design engineer who loves solving challenging design problems. My experience is varied largely because my areas of interest are diverse and learned by way of- Extensive designing, implementing and testing ASICs from initial concept to final mask delivery- Using and implementing PCIe system interfaces, data compressors, DMA controllers, general network device infrastructure and modems- Designing Flash Channel Control subsystems, Flash Device Interfaces, Memory/Resource management systems. I\'ve used forward error correction techniques for data integrity in many of these designs- Designing custom Microcontrollers, assemblers for same and programming them in assembly language- Performing digital circuit design for communications chips, including DSP circuits, framers and mappers using high speed logic design techniques- Working with and designing displays, graphics, and image processing systems- Programming to develop software and hardware design solutions using many popular languages, including real-time, embedded processor systems- Writing advanced test benches for verification using System Verilog and the UVM class library- Designing production and emulation based systems using Altera and Xilinx FPGAs- Designing and implementing mechanical and electro-mechanical devices using 3D printing processes.Specialties:• Programming Skills - C/C++, VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog, UVM, TCL/TK, Flex/Bison, Perl, Python• CAD/CAE Tools - Simulators: Cadence NCSIM, Synopsys VCS, Mentor Questa (ModelSim), SPICE- Implementation: Design Compiler, RC, Synplify, Vivado, Vivado HLS, PrimeTime, SpyGlass, Quartus, FlexNoC• Embedded Processor Experience- ARC, ARM, Intel 80xx, Motorola 65xx, Tensilica• Single Board ComputersRaspberry Pi, Arduino Uno• Mechanical Tools- TurboCad Professional, CURA
Experience
Senior Engineer (Level Vii)
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems
Dec 2019 — Present
Provide Hardware, Software, Test and Certification support as required. • Designed FPGA circuits using VHDL to format data for a software based radio. • Actively participated in the DO245 Certification of GA aircraft avionics. This included the development of an advanced test-bench that automated many of the certification tasks. • Provided tool support for our sustainment team by updating and improving they\'re spreadsheet based systems using Python. • Spent 16 months developing real-time embedded control software for a space rated communication laser. Wrote all specification and software description documentation. Debugged the laser control and processor circuit boards. Coded a testbench using Tcl/Tk libraries to provide both a scripting language to test the laser, and a GUI to operate it. • Received 2 excellence awards from management in recognition of my work.
