About Jonathan Gutierrez

Jonathan hails from Long Beach, California, and is currently a Senior at the University of California, Berkeley. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies with a minor in Education, driven by a commitment to paving the way for individuals statistically less likely to attain leadership opportunities. Jonathan is an HSF Scholar and recently served as the South Carolina State Delegate in the inaugural student-led Model Constitutional Convention at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. Jonathan, an alumnus of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), partnered with the George Washington University Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute to author an academic blog post highlighting state-sponsored gender violence within the Latinx community. He also gained valuable experience as a Legislative intern in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. As a first-generation college student, Jonathan has embraced numerous leadership roles, including serving as a Peer Advisor at Berkeley’s Career Center, President of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated, First-Generation Committee Director of Unidad En Educación, and Political Education Chair at UC Berkeley’s Brown Issues chapter. In these capacities, he has organized and facilitated workshops and panels focused on intersectionality to promote the professional development of Latinx students. Jonathan aspires to earn a Juris Doctorate in Space Law, inspired by his passion for outer space exploration and international politics. He has consistently pushed himself to achieve his goals, striving to make his family and community proud.
