ABOUT JESSICA RODRIGUEZ REYES

I never lose; I either win or learn” – Nelson Mandela. As a self-motivated active community member ready to take on any challenge, I do not take this quote with a grain of salt. I aim to actively learn or reflect on every experience to ensure future precision. I am a first-generation University of North Texas (UNT) student studying accounting. I plan to continue my education and sit for the CPA exam in 2026. I aspire to pursue a career as a corporate auditor or in corporate tax. My interest in accounting began at 18 when my father, a small business owner, began to teach me how to use QuickBooks, manage business invoices, and record receivables. Once I enrolled at Collin College, I took my first accounting course and became captivated. Not only did understanding how to manage my assets appeal to me but also the importance of becoming financially literate. Besides enrolling in the BS/MS Accounting program at UNT, I am also enhancing my professional development by holding internships with employers such as Ernst & Young, Wells Fargo, and Capin Crouse. Interning has not only allowed me to utilize the skills that I am learning in class, but it has also helped me target what I need to touch up on to be successful after graduation. My goal is to learn about the vast opportunities that accounting offers through real-life experiences. I spent 3.5 years with my previous employer at Home Depot, where I took several leadership roles. Throughout my tenure at Home Depot, I grew my people skills learned how to lead a team, and, most importantly, taught me customer service skills that I know are applicable in the corporate world. This experience has taught me essential life skills such as conflict resolution, time management, leadership, accountability, accuracy, and business organization skills. Outside of school and work, I enjoy hiking, working out, spending time with my family or reading a good book. Ten years from now, I aspire to use everything I’ve learned thus far, and I expect to continue to learn more wherever I am. As a future CPA, I envision myself escalating the corporate ladder as a partner. Contact Information: J••••••••@gmail.com
