About Jessica Moody

I have worked in the nonprofit sector for ten years, joining Create Birmingham as Communications Specialist in 2011 after serving as Customer Service Manager for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. I now oversee the services Create offers in support of the city’s creative industries, including CO.STARTERS, Film Birmingham, Birmingham365, and Office Hours. I serve as the local liaision to visiting filmmakers and incoming productions and play a critical role in mentoring local small businesses and entrepreneurs. In addition to weekly meetings with CO.STARTERS participants, I consult with graduates regularly to help them set actionable tasks and achievable goals and take full advantage of the spectrum of CO.STARTERS graduate support services. I also represent the commercial creative sector as a member of the City of Birmingham’s Small Business Council, an advisory group to the Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity.

   Create Birmingham is the only agency in the region exclusively dedicated to the economic development of Birmingham’s creative industries. We invest in imagination and invention by supporting workforce development, entrepreneurial ventures, and job growth in the nonprofit and commercial creative sectors. It is Create Birmingham’s privilege to collaborate with individuals, businesses, and organizations to identify opportunities, overcome barriers, and strengthen communities. We also work to raise greater public awareness of our constituents’ talents, products, services, and skills. Birmingham’s creative class is part of a 21st-century movement that is creating real economic change. We are proud to advocate for the creative industries as a critical regional asset that enhances our quality of life and fuels our collective growth. As the Director of Programs, I oversee a multitude of our initiatives - CO.STARTERS, Film Birmingham, Birmingham365, SpaceFinder Birmingham, and Office Hours. I manage all communications platforms including our weekly newsletter, social media, and our three websites. I meet regularly with graduates from our CO.STARTERS program to help them launch and grow their businesses and serve as a mentor helping to create actionable tasks and achievable goals.
