About Jessica Nelson
I am a 1st-year PhD student in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Tennessee (Go Vols!). I have prior experience in corporate R&D, laboratory research, manufacturing, and process engineering.Former managers have described me as: intellectually curious with an ability to adapt to any situation; very motivated with a consistently positive attitude; having a growth mindset and a dedication to excel; producing work that is organized, accurate, and timely; a key player in completing projects to grow and expand the company; and a careful and thoughtful experimentalist.I am passionate about mentorship, particularly for underrepresented students in engineering. Within the Society of Women Engineers, I led and organized the SWEeties mentorship program to increase the retention of freshmen female engineering students. I also initiated the inaugural professional mentorship addition to the SWEeties program. I was involved in this program throughout the entirety of my undergraduate program, and believe that mentorship is essential at all stages of a successful engineering career.
