WORK HISTORY
Professor @Artcenter College Of Design
Pasadena, CA, US
I taught social science research methodologies and professional writing to over 500 undergraduates, and led fine art studio and seminar courses for more than 100 students, integrating analytical and creative approaches to problem-solving. Most recently, I developed and piloted a course in Urban Ecology and co-taught Indigenous Frameworks for Ecology with Joel Garcia (Huichol) of Metzli Projects, incorporating collaborative, place-based approaches into the curriculum. I also evaluated performance and provided individualized feedback for up to 50 students per term, coaching students to strengthen skills, critical thinking, and applied learning in interdisciplinary contexts.

ABOUT JESSICA RATH
I am a terrestrial plant ecologist with expertise in adaptive management, restoration planning, and stakeholder engagement. I work as an Environmental Scientist with California State Parks, focusing on restoration planning and wildfire resilience, and teach in the Masters in Conservation and Restoration Science Program at UC Irvine. I was also an environmental artist for three decades, creating research-informed work that connected people with plants, ecosystems, and the land.My research spans restoration planning, post-fire resilience of coastal sage scrub, native forb recruitment in Los Angeles (Block Stewards), and edge-effect studies in passive restoration (Farm Unfixed). Across projects, I focus on applied science, community engagement, and translating ecological knowledge into actionable stewardship. I co-teach Land Co-Management with Naomi Knox (Acjachemen) at UCI, emphasizing ethical collaboration and place-based learning, as well as Technical Writing. And at ArtCenter I teach the Art of Research and Urban Ecology, mentoring students in research, critical thinking, and applied urban ecology concepts for land
