Trauma Surgery Team at Virginia Hospital Center- Perform ATLS-guided trauma evaluations and emergency stabilization/resuscitation during trauma activations at a Level II trauma center- Obtain thorough histories, perform head-to-toe physical exams, order and interpret necessary diagnostic labs and imaging, obtain appropriate consultations with specialists, and admit patients as needed- Round daily on trauma patients, carrying 12-18 primary patients per day; developing, executing, and adjusting care plans, while communicating these plans with patients and their families- Manage a variety of comorbidities, illnesses, disabilities, and psychosocial issues- Liaise routinely with the trauma care team including, but not limited to: RNs, CNAs, PT/OT teams, and case management, to ensure the highest standard of care is met- Collaborate with multiple attending physicians, adapting to various styles of clinical practice- Manage and coordinate care with Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and other consulting surgical and medical specialities- Perform procedures and act as first-assist in operative trauma and acute care surgery cases, ranging from routine cholecystectomies to emergent exploratory laparotomies - Evaluate patients in the outpatient clinic setting, arranging appropriate preoperative and postoperative diagnostics and care.
