About Jessica M. Fields
I\'m thrilled to have joined the Knowledge Services team at Barnes & Thornburg as of April 2024 and look forward to supporting the entire firm.I\'ve been in law libraries for nearly two decades now. I have experience in the private law firm setting as well as in the law school academic environment. Working as a solo in a law firm means I have worn all the hats, from administration to public services to tech services. I have also led small teams of legal information professionals (aka law library staff) in the law firm setting and was deeply honored to receive unsolicited gratitude for my thoughtful leadership in that role from my team.I\'m tech savvy with interest in legal tech, innovation, analytics, knowledge management, process improvement, competitive intelligence, business intelligence, AI, and their impact on the legal profession. I worked with IT at Miller Johnson to revamp the library\'s intranet page with user experience (UX) in mind. I also created digital archives and spearheaded digitization projects to make things more accessible. In my last few years at Miller Johnson, I fell under the umbrella of IT in order to foster collaboration and served as a co-chair on the AI Committee up until my departure.I enjoy helping people find what they need and teaching people how to find things on their own. I love that my profession allows me to be a lifelong learner. I believe strongly in information literacy and the duty of tech competence in the legal profession.I led the transition from print resources to digital resources at Miller Johnson, cutting expense from duplication between formats, increasing access and efficiencies, and enabling remote work ahead of its need. I\'ve handled the reduction and relocation of three print collections: one at Smith Haughey and two at Miller Johnson (one in Kalamazoo and one in the Grand Rapids office)
