As the Dir. of Sustainability and Zero Waste Programs, I work with Management, employees, customers, and stakeholders to advance Athens Services’ environmental and zero waste goals and to minimize the company’s environmental impact, both within the company and the communities we serve- Oversee the overall execution, mission, and efficacy of the sustainability and zero waste dept, programs, and tools- Direct the efforts of the Athens Sustainability Team and saw to the creation and implementation of our first Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy- Design outreach and diversion programs for some of the most challenging waste scenarios, most notably Apartment Food Scrap Recycling, Apartment Ambassador Trainer, K-12 Manual, and online interactive recycling guide- Develop and implement company-wide food recovery/donation strategy according to city and state mandates- Support SB 1383 strategy, including food recovery, textile recycling, schools programs, and material needs- Acted as lead proposal writer/editor and helped secure and rollout the City of Los Angeles recycLA franchise agreement (largest in U.S. history), resulting in the highest scored contract, three assigned zones, and over 30% of the customer base- Oversee recycLA educational material, vendor partnerships, events, and specialized Zero Waste programs, as well as co-lead the organics recycling efforts, materials, and training- Launched weekly Athens Academy Series on Instagram as a means to continue community education in lieu of COVID-19 restrictions- Provide recommended course of actions for emerging trends and legislative changes- Identify creative proposals that balance business and municipal obligations (cost effectiveness, feasibility, and ease of integration) with the goal of supporting and improving local and global environments- Assist with marketing content, messaging strategy, and design to create unified messaging and support interdepartmental goals.
