ABOUT JESSICA SHURAN YU
I am currently a reporting fellow at The Texas Tribune covering the intersection of criminal justice, women’s health, and gender-based violence. In May 2025, I received my M.S. and graduated with honors from Columbia University’s Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism. For over ten years, I was a competitive figure-skater. My career highlights include being a 3-time national champion, placing in the top 6 at Asian Winter Games 2017, being the first to represent Singapore at World Championships, and being the second alternate for the 2018 Olympic Games. My experiences as an athlete and the work by investigative reporters who uncovered widespread abuse in USA Gymnastics inspired me to pursue a career in investigative journalism. I am passionate about practicing sensitive, trauma-informed reporting to produce coverage that holds power to account.
