As a Student Accessibility Counselor at the community college level, I assess the unique needs of students with disabilities by reviewing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, and DSM-based diagnoses. I prescribe appropriate academic accommodations and send out Letters of Accommodation (LOAs) to faculty to ensure students receive the support they need in a timely manner. I also coordinate services such as note-taking assistance and other individualized support. In my role, I advocate for students’ rights and equitable access by working closely with instructors, faculty, and campus departments, ensuring a collaborative and inclusive educational environment.
