About Jessica Duis

I am a neurogeneticist and special care pediatrician with clinical experience in the management and care of individuals with rare disease across a broad range of disorders including neurogenetics (e.g, DEEs), neuromuscular (e.g, muscular dystrophies), rare genetic causes of obesity, metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, and skeletal dysplasia. My career has focused on chromosome 15 disorders including Angelman, Duplication 15q, various additional DEEs (such as Pitt Hopkins, CHD2, SYNGAP1, STXBP1, CDKL5, Rett syndrome, among others) and Prader Willi syndromes with expertise in the neurological and psychiatric manifestations of these disorders. I have created large translational centers of excellence to serve the needs of these individuals from providing and developing the standard of care to translational research and investigator driven clinical trials. I have worked in the field of biologics, peptides and small molecules toward precision therapies to change the natural history of devastating neurogenic conditions including interactions with regulators to push the envelope on clinical design and endpoint development for severe neurodevelopment disabilities and DEEs. I am passionate about acceleration of clinical development to ensure treatments get to the patients with the highest unmet needs in the fastest route to approval. I have worked with regulators globally on successful qualification of endpoints including digital health technology and biomarkers for rare progressive diseases. I have developed, advised on and designed many natural history studies and registries to advance the knowledge and support the use of synthetic controls to limit the need for placebo and lengthy clinical trials for rare disorders. I have a broad breadth of experience across neurology and psychiatry including treatment for symptomatic sleep disorders, epilepsy and tremor with the greatest experience in gene therapy and ASO development. I have worked and advised on delivery methods for ASOs and biologics.
