Detecting Schistosoma in Bornean Water Buffalo and the Implications of Environmental Variables for Zoonotic Transmission in the Context of Climate Change. This project aims to explore Schistosomiasis in Bornean buffaloes using innovative techniques to identify the presence of Schistosoma in water bodies linked to buffalo farming. The PhD will provide: i) insights into the prevalence of S. japonicum in water buffaloes, ii) an assessment of the geographical distribution of the pathogen, information on human exposure to the pathogen, and iv) predictions regarding the future distribution of the parasite in light of climate change. This research will be supervised by Dr. Pablo Orozco-terWengel at Cardiff University, with co-supervision from Dr. Laura Braun (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and Dr. Michael Arribas-Ayllon (Cardiff University). The external partner for this project is the Danau Girang Field Centre in Borneo.
