   Directs the day to day operation of the safety and security program to ensure a safe and secure environment for our animal, guest and staff.Develops and maintains a preventative safety and security program that mitigates/prevents threats to institutional assets, and to reduce loss and injury due to workplace hazards and accidents. This includes coordinating with colleagues (i.e. Guest Relations on guest and floor security, with IT to ensure physical security of technology assets, with Animal Care to ensure animal protection, with or with Learning & Community on field programs).Directs safety program and manages and coordinates institutional compliance of safety and security to AZA, ADA, and OSHA, and adheres to best practices in a challenging work environment.Coordinates Risk management planning. Collaboration with General Counsel, Public Relations, and executive management to mitigate liability.Focus on access control and guest safety during a multi-year, multi-phase construction improvement efforts.Conducts regular monthly meetings with inter-departmental safety committee.Develops and maintains safety and security operations manual, and emergency action plans for the institution.Vendor management of security contractor and all service/technology providers, including system integrators, weapons detection systems, safety training organizations, and general consultancy. Develops and conducts RFPs for security vending opportunities.Liaison for day-to-day safety and security matters with governmental agencies and departments, as well as members of the museum and professional community. Provides a direct link to OEMC, CPD, CFD, and state and federal authorities.Plans and manages the Aquarium\'s security budget (approx $2M per year), exercising appropriate control over, and utilization of institutional resources. Makes recommendations for capital upgrades that improves the security infrastructure and informs the institutional capital budget.
