About Jesse R. Sparks
I am a cognitive and learning scientist with interests in critical thinking, digital information literacy, reading comprehension, learning from texts, and developing students\' higher order cognitive skills-including digital literacy and AI literacy. I conduct research and development efforts aimed at understanding and supporting teaching and learning in literacy, science, and social science domains, understanding the role of individual differences in learning and assessment, and designing scenario-based performance tasks to support data collection, analysis, and inference. I work closely with assessment developers, UI/UX specialists, teachers, and other stakeholders to apply user-centered design toward the development and iterative refinement of innovative, research-based personalized assessments and AI-enabled digital tools that to support teaching and learning.
