ABOUT JESS PAULUS

Epidemiologist with extensive experience leading cross-functional teams to execute high-quality and large-scale clinical research programs. I have facility across an array of disease areas forged through leading teams in consulting environments, and have particular methodological expertise in observational data (including RWD), comparative effectiveness analyses, heterogeneity of treatment effect and clinical prediction modeling. I have a track record of success with respect to leading diverse, cross-functional teams in executing RWD-based studies, offering scientific leadership in business development activities, and driving dissemination of work in high impact medical journals and conference settings.I serve as Vice President of Research at Ontada, a business of McKesson, and HQ\'d in Boston, MA where I am fortunate to lead a team of talented and forward-thinking real world researchers. Before joining Ontada, I led research teams at OM1 Inc, an innovative real world data tech company with data assets spanning neurology, rheumatology, mental health, cardiology and other chronic diseases. I had a rewarding academic career before transitioning to the private sector. I was a faculty member at Tufts University School of Medicine/Tufts Medical Center for over 10 years, where my research focused on how algorithms – such as clinical prediction models - used in clinical decision making and healthcare resource allocation may introduce unfairness. Serving as Associate Director of the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Graduate Program, I taught courses in epidemiologic methods, study design and scientific writing, and mentored over 30 fellows in thesis-based master’s degree programs. I was also actively engaged in clinical research curricular reform and the application and dissemination of novel teaching methods (including participant-based approaches) in the US and abroad. I served on the faculty of the Harvard School of Public Health, Brandeis University and enjoyed teaching opportunities at universities in Brazil, Peru, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Nigeria, amongst other countries.I received Epidemiology training at the Harvard School of Public Health, where I studied with David Christiani, Xihong Lin, Peter Kraft and Bruce Johnson, and focused on coursework in causal inference, pharmacoepidemiologic methods and observational data methods relevant to the study of chronic diseases.Link to publications: & hl=en)
