ABOUT JESS GERFEN
I am currently the Trust SENDCo for River Learning Trust, supporting schools in our trust across Oxfordshire and Swindon to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND. As an experienced teacher and senior leader with over a decade in education, predominantly supporting students with special educational needs, I am passionate about creating inclusive, aspirational learning environments.My career has focused on curriculum design and development within special schools, as well as creating relevant developmental curricula for enhanced pathways and specialist provision in mainstream settings. I have extensive experience in school improvement work, supporting teachers and teaching assistants to build their confidence and skills to meet the needs of all learners. My practice is driving by my underpinning ethos of preparing students for adulthood, and life, from the earliest of years. I have participated in peer reviews been mainstream and specialist schools and was a contributor to the Whole School SEND Preparing for Adulthood from the Earliest of Years peer review guide. I regularly lead CPD, coaching, and supervision for staff to ensure reflective, evidence-informed practice remains at the heart of provision. As a reflective practitioner myself, I believe in empowering others to create meaningful change for children and young people.
