After recent years focusing on design and implementation of Windows-client-side software, I decided to build new skills while applying my prior database experience. I jumped into the exciting world of cloud-based processing of “big data.” I work on petabyte- and exabyte-scale technologies that simultaneously support Microsoft\'s first-party cloud services like Bing and Microsoft\'s external product offering known as “Azure Data Lake Analytics.” My initial personal efforts focused on improving the CPU efficiency of cloud-based extraction of structured data from delimited text formats. Such efficiency grows in importance in the face of increases in available IO bandwidth. Our team codes heavily in both C++ and C#, but we also support use of other languages like Python and R that are popular for data analysis and machine learning.
