About Jerry Wagner
I started my partnerships journey at age 10, swinging a machete to chop cornstalks for cows that grazed in my backyard — maybe this could be considered unconventional training, but a fitting one for someone who thrives on practical problem-solving and resourcefulness.More recently, I brought that same grit to high-impact immigration work along the U.S.–Mexico border. As a program manager with the American Bar Association’s ProBAR initiative, I led pro bono operations for an innovative work permit clinic (housed in a converted pawn shop) that helped over newly arrived migrants apply for employment authorization within hours of arrival—accelerating lawful work eligibility by 4–5 months and unlocking $90M in potential earned income. In 2024, I set an organizational record for volunteer coordination, overseeing more than hours of service from attorneys, technologists, and advocates. I also facilitated internal initiatives, leading all-staff meetings for 250+ team members and advising fundraising colleagues on donor strategy and engagement. Before this, I managed $16M+ annually in grant-funded global health research, driving data systems and reporting tools to inform healthcare leaders during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kenya. Earlier in my career, deep in the Belizean rain forest with Peace Corps and mosquitoes, I first honed my community-building skills—and yes, advanced my machete wielding abilities by affixing the long blade to my bike to be at the ready to help clear a trail or deter a wild animal.Happy to chat if you are looking to build efficient systems and scalable impact in any sector. My background is in program management in immigration, global health, education, and global development but I am also keenly interested in applying these skills in the fintech, legal professions as it pertains to access to justice, and AI. Also happy to talk about machetes.
