Experienced Medical School Dean and group practice CEO with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Education in chemistry, chemical engineering, medicine, family medicine, academic family medicine and public health at the University of Missouri - Columbia He has served the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (President, Chair of the Academic Family Medicine Advocacy Committee), the Association of Departments of Family Medicine (Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee), the Association of Family Practice Residency Directors, and the North American Primary Care Research Group. Current member of the Board of Directors for both and for Family Medicine for America’s Health and the American Board of Family Medicine, for which he now serves and chair-elect. Former member of the Council on Graduate Medical Education, the leading healthcare workforce policy body that advised HHS Secretaries Leavitt and Sebelius and the health care legislation authorizing committees of Congress. Dr. Kruse is a student of the interactions of biology and society. He has pioneered cooperative relationships between osteopathic and allopathic institutions and interprofessional systems of care. Dr. Kruse has a special interest in cross-cultural and population health to inform effective policies and improve health care systems. Responsible for all activities of education, clinical practice, research, scholarship, creative professional activities, service, finance and administration related to the SIU School of Medicine, a community based medical school that has affiliation agreements with 5 hospitals. Responsible for the organization\'s activities for the population to whom we are accountable - the 2.2 million people and 67 counties of southern, central and western Illinois. Accountable for all of the activities of the SIU HealthCare, the multispecialty group practice of the SIU School of Medicine. 288 medical students, 80 physician assistant students, 84 graduate students, 1700 employees, 425 faculty members, 280 full-time physicians, 300 more health professionals.
