I play a vital role in both clinical and administrative healthcare settings, ensuring seamless patient care and supporting providers in their daily responsibilities. My experience includes phlebotomy and lab draws, accurately performing venipunctures and preparing specimens, as well as assisting with wound care, wrapping, and medical imaging. I also specialize in vital signs collection, carefully monitoring and documenting patient health metrics to aid in diagnosis and treatment. Beyond direct patient care, I contribute to the efficiency of healthcare operations through patient history dictation, electronic medical record (EMR) management, and compliance with MIPS (Merit-Based Incentive Payment System) standards. My role extends to patient communication, where I help educate individuals on their care plans and ensure they have the information they need for optimal health outcomes. Working in healthcare has strengthened my ability to adapt in fast-paced environments, problem-solve, and provide compassionate care to diverse patient populations. Whether assisting with complex medical cases, supporting providers in documentation, or ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, I am committed to delivering quality care and improving patient experiences

ABOUT JERRY BARAJAS-NUNEZ

Hello everyone! I am a second-year student at Duke University studying Biology and Health policy, pursuing a career in medicine—specifically in primary care. As a future physician, I am passionate about improving rural healthcare access, particularly in Eastern North Carolina, where I hope to help bridge the rural health divide.I have hands-on clinical experience as a medical assistant, where I have performed lab draws, casting, documentation, medical record processing, and more. Additionally, I have worked in a cardiovascular research lab, where I gained experience in staining, cutting, and prepping samples.Beyond medicine, I also work with AB Services, a general HVAC contracting group, where I’ve been involved in HVAC system replacements, ductwork installation, and maintenance operations for both residential and commercial systems. This experience has reinforced my blue-collar mentality, instilling in me a strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and a deep appreciation for hands-on work. My employers can attest to my dedication and commitment to excellence in every task I take on.Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household, I take pride in using my language skills to expand patient outreach and improve healthcare experiences for Spanish-speaking individuals. Effective communication is critical in medicine, and being able to connect with patients in their native language has been incredibly rewarding.Ultimately, I am driven by a desire to serve communities in need—both through clinical care and policy-driven solutions—and I am excited to continue growing in this journey.
