As a full-time counselor at Camp HASC, I was responsible for the complete care of four nonverbal campers with autism. My role went far beyond supervision — I supported all their daily needs including feeding, hygiene, mobility, and personal care, while helping them experience summer with joy, dignity, and connection. This position demanded constant attentiveness, patience, and empathy, and it strengthened my ability to lead with heart, communicate without words, and stay calm in high-pressure situations. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I’ve ever had.
