About Jerome Hansen

I am a values-driven international development leader with more than two decades of senior experience designing and implementing large-scale programs that advance democratic governance, human rights, peacebuilding, and civil society strengthening. I have led organizations and programs exceeding $100 million in total investment across South Asia, Africa, and Southeast Asia — in some of the world\'s most fragile and restrictive environments.My career has spanned Country Director at International Alert in Sri Lanka, Peacebuilding and Governance Advisor to the UN Peacebuilding Support Office in Liberia, and Technical Director on six U.S. government-funded projects for USAID and the State Department. Across these roles I have managed grants portfolios exceeding $30 million, directed a $15 million UN Peacebuilding Fund portfolio, and built cross-sector partnerships among government, nonprofit, and private sector actors in more than ten countries.I bring deep expertise in conflict and contextual analysis, theories of change, organizational capacity development, and grants management — and a proven ability to integrate these disciplines into both program design and adaptive delivery. I am equally skilled in the operational fundamentals that keep complex projects on track: start-up, personnel, finances, client relations, and monitoring and evaluation.At the heart of my work is a commitment to locally led, inclusive programming — ensuring that the communities we serve, especially the most marginalized, have genuine ownership over the change they seek. I am motivated by the belief that relationships among individuals, communities, and government should be grounded in belonging, dignity, and justice.I am currently available for senior consulting engagements and full-time leadership roles in international development, democracy and governance, and rule of law programming.
