About Jerod Shelton
My brother and I had a method of exploring new ski resorts. We would try to hit as much terrain as possible. Glades, bumps, chutes, terrain parks, steep groomers and even the long cruises on the cat tracks. It was no different when we were exploring a new resort in Colorado. We were up at the top of the lift when we saw someone with their skis on their back scoot through a gap in the \'out of bounds\' tape.\"Where could this dude be headed?\" we wondered. Well, we skied over and discovered a trail that led to another peak, not serviced by the chair lift. The conditions were not ideal. It was windy, snowy and visibility was poor, but we were looking for another adventure. We took off our skis and started hiking. Anyone who has ever strapped themselves into ski boots knows that they are definitely not designed for walking, and anyone who knows a thing or two about \'tour\' skiing knows that we were ill equipped with regular ski boots, bindings and no packs. We climbed and climbed. The wind and snow didnt stop, visibility stayed poor. We passed chute after chute but couldnt see if they were viable lines to head down due to visibility. We couldnt be sure if we were dropping into a potential cliff. What the heck were we doing? Why wouldnt we just keep riding up the chair lifts to get us to the peaks? Why did we keep pushing forward? Well we kept going for another hour and things opened up. We had reached the peak and saw a beautiful untouched route down. It was the greatest run of our lives. I would never look at skiing the same again. It\'s not about the laps of the slopes, It\'s the adventure along the way, the struggle and the uncertainty. Now I know the equipment, and I know the path, and I can take others on a calculated path to untouched adventure.
