ABOUT JERICH MATTHEW KING

I have been to 44 countries so far. To most people, it could mean that I am adventurous and that I appreciate beauty in all forms, climate, and language. To me, however, it is more than that. Traveling reflects my values, my outlet for character development, and my appetite for growth. Traveling is my attempt to expand my (and others’) creative horizon. Through traveling, I founded and grew a business that developed the Filipino palate by creating a marketplace of spices of diverse flavor profiles from all corners of the world. Traveling serves as my recurring ethnographic research. My exposure to diverse groups of people grew my understanding of where people come from, what they care about, and building products and services that matter to them. This perspective is pivotal to pioneering a powerful analytics workflow and championing data-backed communications in my role at Globe, one of the leading telecommunications companies in the Philippines.Traveling calibrates my managerial skills. Planning a trip takes time and effort, and a successful execution requires a lot of decision-making and looking-ahead. I also learnt to deal with crises and risks better and adapt to changes rather nimbly. Lastly, traveling is a metaphor for my aspirations. My ultimate career goal is to work in the transportation industry: airlines, logistics, transportation infrastructure and the likes. Traveling is where my business acumen—further developed through the Smith MBA—and personal interests intersect, and where I could see myself in the position to make a big impact.
