About Jeremy Barrett
The thing I keep coming back to in product development is the space between strategy and execution. Good teams have smart engineers, solid roadmaps, and clear goals. The harder part is the connective tissue: the systems, processes, and operational rigor that make delivery predictable rather than heroic.I\'m not a classically trained engineer. I think that\'s an advantage. I see product development as a business problem, and I focus on building the operational infrastructure that helps teams plan, prioritize, and ship with minimal friction. At Sonos I\'ve done this across headphones, speakers, apps, tools, and services. Before that I grew the program management function at a biotech startup shipping COVID diagnostics under FDA authorization.Right now I\'m focused on what I think is the next evolution of this work: using AI to offload the low-leverage parts of program management (the data gathering, formatting, status chasing) so that the people doing the work can focus on the parts that actually require judgment, relationships, and context. I\'m not theorizing about this. I\'m building toward it every day.I\'m always interested in connecting with leaders who are rethinking how product organizations operate.
Experience
Director, Portfolio Operations and Software Tpm
Jan 2025 — Present · Boston, MA, US
I lead the Portfolio Operations and SW Technical Program Management functions at Sonos, defining the frameworks, processes, and tooling strategy that support product development planning and execution across our product portfolio.I manage a team of 5 senior software TPMs and co-own the SDLC with our delivery operations team, setting the operating rhythm for how programs are planned, tracked, and delivered.A core part of this role has been rethinking how we plan, track, and make decisions across Product Development. We moved off legacy portfolio management and requirements systems ($300K+/year combined), and I\'m leading the development of purpose-fit replacements that integrate live data from our development and intake systems. We\'ve also introduced agentic tooling for the TPM team that automates the repetitive, mechanical parts of program management so the team can focus on higher-leverage work.In parallel, we\'ve led a broader tooling transformation across Product Development: I led the redesign of our Jira architecture to eliminate performance bottlenecks, deployed a unified intake system for all product managers and research teams, and championed our Jira cloud migration, where I partnered with our IT architect to build the business case and identify cost efficiencies.
