Since a major part of my energy and inspiration has been focused on directing the Primavera Gallery on King’s Parade - - supporting British artists, designers and makers. The gallery occupies the place where James Joyce recorded Finnegans Wake and earlier where Charles and his sister Mary Lamb lived.During the 1950s Primavera was the base of the Society of Designer Craftsmen where Dame Lucie Rie and Bernard Leach both sold their work, some of which is still on display and for sale at the gallery.Over its three floors we display a further unique handmade British items of jewellery and artwork from 250 contemporary artist-makers. Artists are commissioned to make specific pieces - to explore new ideas and push the boundaries in terms of design. Encouragement and support of their creativity frees them from the constraints of competing on a purely commercial level. The gallery at College Farm in Haddenham near Ely portrays my personal perspective of British contemporary art - the epitome of British Art and Craft.
