ABOUT JEREMY R. PORTER
Jeremy Porter leads the research around the social and economic inplications of climate risk and exposure at the First Street Foundation. In that role, he serves as the lead academic in the coordination of peer-reviewed articles, white-papers, and reports for the communication of research to both scientific and lay audiences. Additionally, he directs the organization’s Research Lab, which is a collective of academic research partners affiliated with the First Street Foundation.He is currently a Professor and Director of the Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences Program at the City University of New York, a Research Associate at the Institute for Demographic Research, and has spent over a decade on the faculty at Columbia University as a Senior Lecturer teaching courses in GIS, Spatial Statistics, and Data Analytics. In his academic roles, he also served as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal Spatial Demography, the Founding Social-Science Editor of the Journal of Maps, and Foundung Editor of Springer’s book series in Spatial Demography. He regularly publishes peer-reviewed research in these areas. Jeremy completed a postdoc at Rice University focused on Demography and Applied Statistics and holds a Ph.D. in Demography with a Ph.D. minor in Mathematics/Statistics, and a National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis certification in Geospatial Technologies.
