I\'ve spent more than twenty years in hospitality learning one thing above everything else: the business part is the easy part. The people part is where leadership actually lives. As Managing Director of Witham Family Hotels, I oversee a portfolio of properties on Mount Desert Island, Maine, and a team of nine general managers, with responsibility spanning HR, marketing, training, and operations. It\'s a role built on a conviction I\'ve held since my first GM job: invest in your people before you chase your revenue, build a culture where everyone prioritizes reputation over short-term margins, and the results follow — reliably, sustainably, and at a level you can\'t manufacture any other way. That philosophy is why Witham Family Hotels earned the #2 Best Places to Work in Maine designation in 2025, up from #21 the year prior — and why staffing shortages, once our biggest annual threat, don\'t appear on any of our eight properties\' SWOT analyses anymore. I\'m also a writer, an advocate for legal immigration reform, a youth baseball coach, and someone who believes businesses have a responsibility to the communities they operate in — not just the guests they serve. Bar Harbor, Maine is my home, and everything I do professionally is in some way in service of making it better.
