   In 2011, I was on a camel safari in India when someone sat on my sunglasses and the sidearms broke off. Pink and squinty, I tied a piece of cord to the broken hinges and wrapped the cord around the back of my head. I couldn\'t believe how well the quick fix worked - More durable than ever, the frames were comfortable and they didn’t slip off my face. I wore the macgyvered sunglasses for 5 more years - through college. So many people enquired about the unique design, it propelled a business idea that would lead to the most practical sunglasses on the market - Ombraz. I teamed up with a friend from college, Nikolai, who used to steal my macgyvered pair all the time. We launched our armless sunglasses concept via an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign in Spring 2018. In the 30 days to follow, we raised over in preorders and sold Ombraz in every US state, 52 different countries and all 7 continents. Since 2018, Ombraz\' armless design has won Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Year 2021, GearJunkie Best Sunglasses 2020, USA Today’s Best Gear of 2020, Backpacker Magazine’s Gear Editors’ Choice Award in 2019, Popular Mechanic\'s Best Gear of 2021, Wired Sunglasses of the Year 2021, Men\'s Health Gear of the Year 2022 and Wirecutter Gear of the Year 2022. Besides solving key eyewear frustrations, we focus on delivering a net-positive environmental impact. We plant 20 mangrove trees for every pair sold - making each pair 1,384X carbon negative - the most carbon negative product on the market. In Feb 2021 Nikolai and I closed a seed round securing capital to address our #1 issue: staying in stock. Now sitting pretty with inventory, Nikolai and I are building our core team to scale up operations and untap our full market potential.
