I serve as Deputy General Counsel at a large public R1 research university and advise on a wide range of governance and higher education matters, including employment, discrimination, IP & licensing agreements, litigation, community partnerships, healthcare transactions, fraud and abuse laws (Stark, Anti-Kickback), FERPA, HIPAA, public records, open meetings, and contracting. Before working at East Carolina University, I was legal counsel to various organizational clients, including community hospitals, academic medical centers, physician practices, small businesses, local governments, and municipalities. As a former trial lawyer, I also have experience representing clients in all phases of civil litigation.
