ABOUT JENNIFER BOOTH

I grew up working-class in rural Lincolnshire, where I witnessed and experienced the disproportionate health impacts of exposure to agricultural pesticides. I am one of many people who grew up in this environment who went on to develop reproductive cancers, which had a major impact on my life and my art practice. My work incorporates allegorist use of chemicals, both in terms of processes such as analogue photography, video and taxidermy, as well as material-historical resonances such as the application of white dust to my body in self-portrait works documenting the ways my body carries stigma due to disease - the latter have been exhibited internationally.Organising and documenting exhibitions, public artwork, and interventions, and delivering education and engagement through client-focused, semi-structured mark-making in the UK and Europe. In 2018 I began a two-year collaboration with Replicast Ltd, a local steel foundry with whom I negotiated low-cost studio rentals to 20 local artists. This allowed me to begin learning about the technical requirements of large-scale casting. I have also made and sold works through Cupola Gallery that were cast in materials such as resin, concrete, & jelly in rabbit-shaped moulds, intended to degrade over time as they react with sound & airPrior experiences that have led to- Connection between working class rural background, environmental damage, and cancer- Working with chemical processes in analogue photography, and working with dead bodies in taxidermy- Visual auto-ethnography with nudes and chalking the body, exhibited in New York and at Cupola- Socially engaged practice in marginalised communities, award-winning work with Maxine Greave in inclusive pedagogy through art, & work at Cambrian Oaks & in Edinburgh doing residencies in clinical settings- Collaboration with Replicast exploring casting methods, intend to take this further with academic partners- Co lead for https://socialartnetwork.org/(SAN) in partnership with to generate Worked in collaboration with EU Research funding with the Sports & Health Department in body mapping, 3D scanning & printing of unfixed bodies in relationship to 18th Century paintings of spoils of hare & bird huntingCreative Mentor working 121 with teenagers in foster care, which is relationship focused & child led activity firmly based within a model of social constructivism & social pedagogy.Currently Art Director Intrapology, Artist Wentworth Woodhouse Camellia Garden & WOW Fest
