As Head of Live at The Courier and The Press and Journal, I lead two high-performing live news teams comprising of 22 people, including a Live News Editor, Deputy Live News Editor and reporters at each title. The remit of the live teams is to publish breaking news and high-quality, engaging content to attract new readers and engage and retain current subscribers. My role is strategic; in the two-and-a-half years since its inception, I have transformed how the teams operate, primarily by using an audience-first data approach to produce high-performing content. My daily duties revolve around problem-solving, including making editorial decisions, managing people directly and guiding the live news editors.
