Teach content-based ESL to a diverse mixed-level class of 27 intermediate and advanced students 25 hours a week. Use American literature and New York City itself to integrate themes of Public Health, New York through the Eyes of Its Writers, and Crossing Boundaries.Create collaborative student-centered training to help students prepare for the CUNY entrance exam. Cover essays, reading comprehension, annotation, grammar (through course context), and preparation. Have the highest retention rate of teachers in the QCC program. Top moment was when NYU Literacy Review published an autobiographical story by my student from Ecuador. When enrollment dropped in 2019, was asked to partner with CUNY Central Office on CLIP curriculum development. Proposed we begin by defining clear measurable curriculum outcomes, spent a month researching options, recommended the Common Europe Framework of Reference (CEFR), observed English 101 classes to catalog required skills, and outlined content-based curriculum modifications and assignments to match outcomes.Invited to present my research on using story structure to teach and engage students at NYU Literacy Conference. Presented to 100 teachers in multiple workshops, received 5-star reviews. For ALL-CLIP Conference in May 2019, presented my Listening Workshop at multiple sessions as well as my TQE Workshop (Thoughts, Questions, Epiphanies) technique that dramatically increases student engagement.
