WORK HISTORY
Director Business and Finance @Leaside Memorial Community Gardens
Leaside Memorial Community Gardens opened its doors 70 years ago, in 1952, and has been a focal point of the local community ever since. Open seven days a week and boasting a double-pad ice rink, a hockey shop, a banquet room, an indoor swimming pool and a curling rink, people living in Leaside and environs gather together at this facility to play hockey, figure skate, swim, curl and socialize. As Director of Business and Finance, I ensure that the facility meets its financial obligations to the City of Toronto while at the same time providing the community with accessible sport, recreation, and community programming to foster healthy active living for life.

ABOUT JENNIFER ANNE SMITH
I thrive on helping teams grow, learn and succeed together. I’ve been described as a big-picture thinker who is also unafraid of rolling up my sleeves and tackling the small details. I enjoy being directly involved in problem solving but at the same time I foster a collaborative, supportive work environment where everyone is empowered to make decisions. I have been fortunate to make a career out of my passions – books and sports. Through that experience I have witnessed first-hand how these simple activities – reading and playing - can change lives. It is rewarding to know that a portion of my work has helped to improve the communities I’ve served. My experience has provided me with broad-ranging skills including team leadership; brand management; partnership development; licensing; corporate mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; sales management; strategic marketing; and a deep knowledge of both publishing and amateur sport. Some of my career highlights include: marketing campaigns in support of multiple Booker Prize winning authors; partnership with the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games; leadership of the country\'s largest female hockey association.
