ABOUT JENNIFER YOUNG

Partner at Thorntons LLP in Aberdeen, advising clients on construction, engineering and a wide range of commercial contracts.For over 30 years, I have worked closely with clients across the construction, engineering and energy sectors, helping them manage risk, negotiate robust contractual arrangements and resolve issues efficiently when challenges arise. My approach is practical and commercially focused, with an emphasis on clear advice that supports confident decision-making.I am accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Construction Law and am Convenor of its Construction Law Accreditation Panel. My experience spans the full lifecycle of projects, from early-stage risk reviews and contract negotiation through to dispute avoidance and the resolution of high-value contractual and building defect claims.I regularly advise on complex supply-chain arrangements in the energy sector, including performance guarantees, payment mechanisms and recovery, security arrangements, data protection issues, and the practical allocation of risk across contractual chains. I also support clients in building commercial awareness and confidence when working with complex contractual structures.Alongside my legal practice, I hold leadership and governance roles. Since January 2025, I have been Chair of the Board of Governors at Albyn School, Aberdeen. I am also a past Chair of the CBI Scotland Council and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.I enjoy working with clients and professional referrers who value clear communication, long-term relationships and practical, solution-focused advice.
