About Jennifer Whiting
Jennifer Whiting is an experienced conductor, pianist, vocal coach, educator, and church musician. Her career includes seven years of classroom teaching at the grade school level, six years developing a choir program for junior high and high school, and five years of adjunct teaching at community colleges. She has served as pianist and director for churches in Wheaton, Barrington, Aurora, Arlington Heights, and Rockford, and as conductor of the Rock Valley Master Chorale and the DeKalb Festival Chorus. During her seven-year tenure, DFC became an auditioned chorus and performed major choral works. She accompanied choral programs in high schools in Elgin, IL, and assisted with vocal coaching at Larkin High School Music Academy. She also enjoys teaching piano and voice students privately. Jennifer holds a bachelor’s degree in piano and English from Rockford College where she studied with Marsha Foxgrover, a master’s degree in music (specialization in choral conducting) from Northern Illinois University where she studied with Eric Johnson, and a performer’s certificate in conducting, also from NIU. She also studied composition and conducting with Robert A. Harris, professor emeritus from Northwestern University. Currently, she serves as Director of Music and Choir Director at Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Wheaton, IL, and as the Music Director of the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale. Jennifer has a passion for leading musicians of all ages into satisfying musical experiences, and for creating opportunities for adults to continue singing throughout their lives.
