Dr. van Velkinburgh’s international biomedical research career and entrepreneurial successes in the science communication industry have given her a uniquely comprehensive understanding of the importance of effective, accurate and ethical communications. In addition to her PhD in Molecular Physiology & Biophysics from Vanderbilt University, she completed advanced education in Business Administration (major in Accounting) and has professional experience in Finance (specializing in strategic planning) and Small Business Entrepreneurship. Her research projects have been carried out in government, academic, for-profit and non-profit clinical and laboratory settings, providing broad perspectives into the various business underpinnings of biomedical research. Her publication record in high impact peer-reviewed journals, such as Nature and Science Translational Medicine, reflect her expertise in a broad range of scientific disciplines, including infectious disease pathology and immune response, metabolic and neurological disorders, and global threats to human health.
