Kaiser Permanente\'s Division of Research (DOR) is one of the nation’s largest research facilities outside of a government or university setting. Our studies cover a wide range of clinical topics, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, substance abuse, mental health, maternal and child health, and women’s health. Our research addresses broad issues, including the role of genes and the environment in health, the influence of behavior on disease prevention and chronic illness management, drug safety, health care policy, health services delivery, and disparities. The Division is currently home to 75 research scientists and staff scientists, 17 research fellows, and more than 674 employees. The DOR also has 46 adjunct investigators from within Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) and other academic institutions. DOR’s scientists are involved in 612 ongoing research projects and the KPNC Clinical Trials Program supports and guides 326 active clinical trials following 3,917 members. Since DOR researchers have published more than 8,100 peer-reviewed articles, and across all KPNC researchers there were more than papers published in 2025 alone.
