About Jennifer Shaffer
I am a seasoned higher education leader with over twenty-five years of experience across multiple public and private institutions. As the Director of the Career Development Center at AppState, I provide strategic vision and operational leadership to empower students in achieving lifelong career success. I lead a dynamic team of professionals who provide services across coaching, internships, student employment, and employer relations. I am committed to building strong institutional collaboration pipelines, developing data-informed initiatives focused on career readiness, and expanding opportunities to engage with experiential learning through innovative partnerships.Before joining the Career Development Center, I served as Senior Associate Registrar at Appalachian State University, overseeing academic records, graduation services, and directing the university-wide commencement ceremonies. Earlier in my career, I held progressively responsible leadership roles at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland, with a strong focus on admissions, academic program administration, and student services.I hold a Master of Science in Management from the University of Maryland, University College, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland, College Park. I am an active contributor to university-wide student success initiatives and serves on multiple advisory and strategic planning committees. I am proud to have presented nationally on career development and employer relations and I am a graduate of the AppState Chancellor’s Academic Leadership Development Program.
