ABOUT JENNIFER MAYO

Jennifer Mayo works in the gap between what safety nets promise and what they actually deliver. She has spent more than a decade in the nonprofit sector, focusing on food access, public policy, and the systems families move through every day. She is the Senior Development Specialist at Hunger Free Oklahoma, where she works with donor strategy, corporate partnerships, and long-term planning for statewide nutrition programs, including SNAP, Double Up Oklahoma, and school meal initiatives. Her career includes roles with the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, D.C, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma as an AmeriCorps member, United Way of Central Oklahoma, United Way of Canadian County, and Water4. Across these positions, she has built partnerships, supported donor engagement, and contributed to work that makes a measurable difference in how families access resources.Jennifer holds degrees in Health Education & Promotion and Entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State University. She was named 30 Under 30, selected as a Fellow of the OSU College of Business, and served as a University Innovation Fellow. She has given a TEDx talk and is known for developing clear, creative strategies that bring public attention to issues involving hunger, poverty, health access, and community well-being.Her connection to this work is grounded in lived experience. She grew up on free and reduced-price school meals, and later served as a foster parent — perspectives that shape how she understands the stakes of public systems and accountability. She now lives with her husband and two daughters on a small farm in Edmond.Outside her nonprofit work, she is an entrepreneur. One of her businesses, based in Sulphur, Oklahoma, was heavily damaged in the 2024 tornado, and she is leading its long-term rebuild. She also creates public-facing projects that translate complex systems into clear, accessible stories without losing nuance.Jennifer is recognized for direct analysis, grounded creativity, and an ability to name what isn’t working — while still building toward what could.
