ABOUT JENNIFER DISLA
Jennifer Disla, a poet, organizer, and author— has a dedicated vision for an equitable world through relationship. She has grounded her victories for over a decade fighting alongside communities in deep trust building practice. As a Dominican-American, she has witnessed racial capitalism impacts in the United States and across the world.She began organizing in 2008 with Healthcare for America Now Campaign in Missouri. She continued her career in organizing afterwards as an organizer at Service Employee International Union Local 1. At SEIU Local 1, she built alongside Janitors and Security officers for ten years in different capacities, such as Michigan Coordinator. She has worked on contract campaigns across the Midwest. She believes in building collective power to effectively change our society. As a labor leader, she spent time building coalitions with community partners. She recognizes the necessary power within community to bring change to the country. She learned early on how to engage residents around change through her volunteer work with New Jersey Institute for Social Justice in Newark, NJ. She recently concluded the role as Senior Fellow at the Colin Powell School, City College of New York and continues to be a member of Organization for Black Struggle, Action Lab, and Missouri Jobs with Justice.
