ABOUT JENN POTTER CLEMPNER

I work at the intersection of creative practice, higher education, and the music industry, with over twenty years’ experience spanning the world of professional music-making and academia.As Curriculum Lead for the BMus Popular Music degree at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), I lead curriculum design and delivery in alignment with current industry practice. My work focuses on preparing students for meaningful, sustainable careers in music, combining academic rigour with practical, lived experiences. My role brings together academic, managerial, and creative leadership, including line management, artist management, strategic planning, consultation on marketing, event delivery, and the mentoring of both staff and students, with a focus on the college’s artistic direction.Alongside this, I am an external PhD candidate at Erasmus University Rotterdam. My research explores how culture, pedagogy, and gender within higher popular music education shape student well-being, resilience, and long-term career sustainability. I am a member of the Rotterdam Popular Music Studies (RPMS) research group and contribute to ongoing research in this area.My professional background includes formal theatre training at RADA, followed by a career in the music industry as a session musician. I toured extensively in the UK, Europe, and the USA, performing at major festivals and appearing across television and radio. I have also managed an independent record label and currently serve as an External Examiner for ICMP London, supporting quality assurance in higher music education.Outside of work, I am an endurance swimmer, fitness enthusiast, athlete, and mother of two.
